When I see clients that eat low-fat diets, typically they are suffering from some of these other symptoms:
- depression
- fatigue
- anxiety
- mood swings
- blood sugar problems
- gas
- bloating
- acid reflux
- hormone imbalances
- dry hair
- itchy, dry skin
- difficulty controling or losing weight
Fats have been blamed for every health issue, even though years ago the American diet was 30% or higher in fat and heart disease, cancer, etc were rare. I’m often working with people to increase their fat intake. Saturated fat, the much demonized fatty acid, is an essential part of normal body function. They are critical in energy metabolism, immunity, intestinal health and metabolic health.
The saturated fat in butter is rich in fat soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K. It enhances the immune system, protects the liver from toxins, provides nourishment for the heart, gives stiffness and integrity to our cell membranes, aids in the use of omega 3 fatty acids.
These is just an example of the many roles of saturated fat. So, please stop starving yourself of this much needed nutrient. Eat whole real foods and enjoy!
